The Watertown-Mayer boys’ golf team wrapped up its regular season last week with the final Minnesota River Conference meet on Monday, May 21, as well as an invitational hosted by Dassel-Cokato on Wednesday, May 23.
At the final MRC meet, an 18-hole meet that counted as two nine-hole meets at Ridges at Sand Creek, the Royals finished sixth on the front nine and seventh on the back nine. On the front, the Royals shot a 183, and were led by Jacob Menth’s 40. Menth also carded a 40 on the back nine, and the Royals shot 186 as a team.
Norwood Young America shot a 158 on the front and a 163 on the back to secure the overall conference title with eight points on the season, ahead of Jordan, which finished with 10 points on the year after taking second on both the front and back nine. Watertown-Mayer finished in eighth place.
On the front nine on Monday, Jacob Wandersee added a 46, Matt Fritzke shot a 48 and Jacob Grotbo carded a 49. Aaron Sweeney was at 53 and Dan Dressel shot a 55.
On the back nine, Fritzke and Grotbo matched their scores from the front nine with a 48 and a 49, repsectively. Sweeney also shot a 49, Wandersee shot a 51 and Dressel shot a 55.
On the season, Menth led the Royals by finishing tied for 11th place in the MRC standings at 34-over-par, and was named honorable-mention all-conference. Wandersee finished in 29th place, while Fritzke was 32nd, Grotbo was 33rd and Sweeney was 34th. Jordan’s Jacob Zahler was the conference champion at 9-over-par.
The Royals will be back in action Thursday, May 31, for the first day of the section tournament at Pebble Creek. Day 2 of the tournament is Monday, June 4.
