Writer asks community to join music in the park concerts

To the Editor:

It is hard to believe that school is almost out and summer is upon us. One of the traditions that my family and many other people enjoy is the Thursday night Music in the Park concerts. For me it brings a sense of community to see a couple hundred people ranging from 2 to 82 years old enjoying a warm summers night listening to good music and catching up with friends and neighbors.

Over the past seven years this program has been funded by a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. Sarah Heyer at Westonka Community Education has done a great job securing this grant for our community. This grant, along with some donations from community members, has given us music that ranges from Blue Grass to Rock N Roll to children’s music.

After seven years, this year we did not receive the Grant of $3,000. My family and I have been supporters of this program for the past seven years and I really would like to see this program continue for our community. I am reaching out to the community asking for your support.

Every $5 or $10 dollar donation would be a big help in keeping this program going. This summer there are six concerts planned. If you have attended please continue to come. If you have never come before, give it a try – you will love it. Any contributions should be sent to: Westonka Community Education at 5901 Sunnyfield Rd, Minnetrista, MN 55364

Hope to see everyone this summer!
