The season came to a close for the Watertown-Mayer boys’ golf team last Thursday at the Section 5AA meet at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
The 18-hole event was the first of two days, but Watertown-Mayer was not among the four teams to advance to the second day, and none of their individual golfers were among those that advanced to Day 2.
Litchfield had the lead after one day of the 15-team meet by shooting a 305, leading second-place Providence Academy by two strokes. Holy Family and Breck were the other two schools to advance. Watertown-Mayer finished 14th at 373.
The top individuals for Watertown-Mayer were Dan Dressel, Aaron Sweeney and Matt Fritzke, who were all part of a tie for 61st place by shooting a 93. Jacob Menth was one stroke back with a 94, tied for 66th place. Also for Watertown-Mayer, Jacob Grotbo carded a 97 and Jacob Wandersee was at 105.
Paul Stankey of Providence Academy led the field after the first round with a 68, and enjoyed a six-stroke lead.
