Steven John Schmidt

Steven John Schmidt passed into Glory Land on May 14, 2012 from his home in Cottonwood, Ariz. He was born in Waconia, Minn., on May 15, 1946 to Harold C. and Geraldine Herrmann Schmidt.

Steven attended Zion Lutheran School, in Carver County, Cologne and graduated from Central High School in Norwood, Minnesota. He enlisted in the Navy, COMSUBPAC and was stationed in Hawaii for four years. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis receiving a Radio Telephone Operator’s License. He married Kay Bagby in 1975 and they had one child, Jessica.

A disc jockey in small town radio, Schmidt lived in Minnesota, Utah and Arizona. Steven and his wife, Kay owned and operated a well respected auto glass company in Sedona, Ariz., for 22 years, taking early retirement to travel. Throughout his life, he volunteered his time and served on the board of many charitable organizations including Muscular Dystrophy Association, House of Ruth, Old Town Mission, Rainbow Acres and the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce. Having learned the love of automobiles from his father, Steve was heavily involved in the classic car hobby.

Greeted in Heaven by his mother, Geraldine, Steven is survived by his Father, Harold; his loving wife of 37 years, Kay; and his daughters Jessica Schmidt and Shannon McNutt.

A celebration of life was held on May 24, 2012 in Cottonwood, Ariz. A graveside service will be held in late September at Benton Township Cemetery near where he grew up in Carver County, Minn.
