Road closures are about to affect motorists traveling in the Long Lake and Orono areas.
The first road scheduled for closure is Brown Road in Orono. The street between Fox Street and Watertown Road is scheduled to close at 9 .m. June 11 in order for crews to repair a culvert. Plans call for the road to be re-opened by the end of the day June 15, though inclement weather could change the schedule.
A marked detour will direct motorists to County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 51, CSAH 84, Old Crystal Bay Road and CSAH 112. People with questions about the project may contact Hennepin County Public Works Dispatch at (612) 596-0299.
A portion of Highway 12 is scheduled for a full weekend closure beginning at 8 p.m. June 15. The highway will be closed from just west of Old Crystal Bay Road to Wayzata Boulevard West.
The highway is being closed for a project that is meant to help make the bypass safer for motorists. Since the bypass opened, there have been several head-on accidents in the area. Some drivers have said they became confused when driving believing that the highway was two lanes in each direction rather than just one lane in each direction. Crews will add centerline rumble strips and restripe the roadway.
The Highway is expected to remain closed until 5 a.m. June 18. A marked detour will direct drivers to County Road 6 and Wayzata Boulevard. In case of inclement weather, the project will be rescheduled. People with questions about the project may contact the Minnesota Department of Transportation at (651) 296-3000.
