Going to the cabin?

Chamber Notes, by Kellie Sites

The heat of summer is upon us and that means it’s time to go to the cabin … WAIT A MINUTE! That means there’s a LOT to do in Waconia!

When people ask me what I’m doing this summer it takes me a minute to think about where to start … Governor’s Fishing Opener – done. Sister Saturday – done. Graduation – done. Grad party – done. Enrolled first born at her university – done.

Now I can focus on getting my seat for the Lake Waconia Marching Band Festival on the 16th, then doing some shopping on Wednesday evening the 20th of June at the first annual Bohemian Bazaar, and then finding a spot on Main Street to cheer on the participants of the Lake Waconia Triathlon on Sunday, June 24. Why don’t you bring your cow bell, get a cup of coffee and join me at 8:30 a.m.? Let’s let the athletes know that we are here to cheer them on! After resting up from all that cheering, I’ll be at the Taste of Ridgeview the next day, the 25th, supporting the foundation and helping to make Ridgeview an even better regional medical center than it already is. After that, I’ll be making my 4th of July plans!

The fireworks show will be shot off on Wednesday, July 4th, from Coney Island by our fantastic volunteer pyro technicians (rain date is July 5). Who pays for this $17,000+ show? It’s all donations. The Waconia Lions pay a lions share, and the Waconia Fire Department, Lola’s Lakehouse, organizations and our businesses … and you.

Please make sure that our show is fantastic! Those big, booming, high in the sky fireworks are not cheap. If you enjoy the fireworks from a boat, from Cedar Point Park or Lake Waconia Regional Park, from Island View Dining and Golf Club, from the In Towne Marina, from Lola’s Lakehouse, or from your lakeshore home, please consider donating. There are donations being accepted at Mackenthun’s Fine Foods, Legacy Wine and Spirits, In Towne Marina, Hardware Hanks, many other businesses and the Waconia Chamber of Commerce. Feel free to send a check, payable to Lake Waconia Fireworks Festival, c/o Waconia Chamber of Commerce, 209 South Vine Street, Waconia, MN 55376. You can also call us with a credit card number – (952) 442-5812. Thanks so much for supporting this awesome event that helps celebrate this great nation we live in.

What’s up after the 4th?

We have our 6th annual Chamber Golf Scramble! Each year we have a theme, and this year is no different. The Wild, Wild West will surely be great fun and we welcome folks from the community who would like to do some networking and golf with our chamber members. The date is Monday, July 16, at Island View Golf Club … $110 per player for 18 holes, golf cart, after golf happy hour, prizes, shot gun start at high noon. It’s a popular event and we’d love to have you join us! Don’t put that western wear away, July 20th and 21st the PRCA rodeo comes back to Waconia at the Carver County Fairgrounds.

What’s happening the rest of the summer?

We sent out a laminated brochure to every business and household address in Waconia in May. I hope you received yours. It has a calendar of events and lists our Chamber Members who make sure we have a Chamber of Commerce. Please support our chamber member businesses! You can also find a member listing and calendar of events at www.destinationwaconia.org.

I look forward to seeing you around town!
