WHS, LHS compete at state track meet

The Waconia girls’ track and field team was represented by the 4×200 relay team and junior Anna Pioske at the state track and field meet on June 8-9 at Hamline University.

The preliminary competition was held on Friday, June 8 with the top teams and individuals advancing to the finals on Saturday.

Pioske ran the 400-meter dash and finished sixth in her heat with a time of 59.54, one one-hundredth of a second behind Detroit Lake’s Lindsey Heinecke in fifth at 59.53. Neither Pioske nor Heinecke’s time qualified for the finals.

The 4×200 relay team of Pioske, Kayla Christensen, Stephanie Frempong-Longdon, and Miranda Schultz was disqualified in its event and did not advance to Saturday’s competition.

Mayer Lutheran High School

With five events at the state meet on June 8-9, the Mayer Lutheran track and field teams were well represented.

The top finisher of the tournament for LHS was the girls’ 4×400 relay team. Comprised of seniors Jessica Klaustermeier and Nicole Manteuffel, as well as junior Holly Johnson and sophomore Sam Bartz, the team finished fifth in their heat on day one of competition with a time of 4:07.95. That time was good enough to place them in the top nine who advanced to the finals on June 9.

In the finals the next day, the team finished eighth of nine teams with a time of 4:08.27. The team from Osakis won the title with a time of 3:57.95.

The girls’ 4×200 team of Klaustermeier, Manteuffel, senior Josie Schreiner, and junior Ashlyn Hucky finished sixth in its heat in preliminary competition. With a time of 1:48.17, the Crusaders were 11th overall and fell short of advancing to the finals.

Klaustmeier competed in the 200-meter dash preliminaries, where she finished fifth in her heat, 10th overall. With a time of 26.18 seconds, Klaustermeier was five one-hundredths of a second short of qualifying for the finals, as the last accepted time was 26.13.

In a final race of 17 teams, the Mayer Lutheran boys’ 4×800 team finished 10th. Alex and Kyle Fredrickson and Chase and Jesse Greenhagen finished the race in 8:21.91, well behind race winners Madelia/Truman (7:58.14).

Alex and Kyle Fredrickson also competed in the 4×400 meter relay, along with senior Sean Bartz and Consti Siggelkow. The foursome finished fifth in their heat, 10th overall. Just shy of qualifying for the finals, the Crusaders finished in 3:29.40.
