Fire win Class AA state title

On Monday, the Holy Family baseball team brought home the Class AA state title. In their first state tournament appearance since 2008, the Fire shutout all of their opponents in the tournament, outscoring the teams 16-0.

To start the tournament, the Fire took down Cannon Falls in an 8-0 game on June 14, followed by a 3-0 win over Fairmont on June 15.

For the title, the Fire took on the Section 6AA champions St. Cloud Cathedral. Fire senior Kasey Ralston finished his 9-0 season against the Crusaders, pitching all seven innings. Ralston allowed zero runs on two hits. He also had seven strikeouts.

Holy Family scored five runs on seven hits and had one defensive error. Designated hitter Connor Riddle led the Fire at the plate, going 2-3 on the day. Also collecting hits for the Fire was Joe Traxler, Matthew Requet, Keller Knoll, Jack Schliesman, and Ralston.

The Fire finished the season 25-4 overall, easily winning the Wright County Conference with their 16-2 record. Holy Family split up long win streaks with losses, the first a 2-1 loss to Litchfield in 12 innings on April 17. From May 1 – 18, the Fire hit a nine game win streak, taking down the entire conference.

The Fire suffered only one loss in the post season, an 8-5 game to Belle Plaine in the section tournament.
