About 500 triathletes, from top performers around the nation to rookies, will converge on Waconia this Sunday, June 24 for the 23rd Annual Lake Waconia Triathlon.
The event is the only triathlon in Minnesota that counts as a qualifying event for the Best of the U.S. Amateur Championship triathlon, which will be held in Indiana this year. The top three finishers, male and female, will qualify for the national event.
Racers will take to the water at Lake Waconia Regional Park at 8:30 a.m. for a half-mile swim, followed by a 20-mile bike ride and a four-mile run, all of which begin and end at the park.
Anyone interested in watching the race can get a good view of the triathletes running or biking along Main Street between 9 and 11:30 a.m.
