Now 17-4 this season, the Waconia Lakers went 4-0 last week with three wins at home.
On Tuesday, the Lakers took down the Glencoe Brewers in a 5-4 game. In a 13-3 win the next night, the Lakers defeated Hamburg.
The team’s sole road game this week was at Mayer on June 30. Winning 10-6, the Lakers defeated the Blazers with the combined pitching efforts of Craig LaPlante and Eric Durkin. LaPlante threw three innings for the Lakers, with four hits, two walks, three earned runs, and one strikeout. Durkin threw the final six innings, with four hits, six walks, three earned runs, and one strikeout.
Hits were spread evenly across the board for Waconia. Kevin Bullis, Durkin, Justin Klingelhutz, Tom Lyons, Ronnie Olson, and Ben Smothers each recorded two hits on the day.
Defensively, the Lakers were able to turn five double plays against the Blazers.
Finally, on a hot Sunday afternoon, the Lakers took down New Germany 7-1 on July 1. The Lakers were the first on the scoreboard, putting up one run in the first inning. Tensions were high in the third inning, as the Lakers rallied for five runs and a New Germany fan was ejected from the game. The Lakers posted one more run in the fourth inning.
Innings five, six, seven, and eight passed without scoring, until the Dutchmen managed to get one across the plate in the ninth, stopping the shutout. Peter Brown pitched the first seven innings. He was then relieved by Ronnie Olson and Tom Lyons.
The Lakers scored seven runs on 14 hits and had no defensive errors. The Dutchmen scored one run on five hits and had one error.
