Glenard R. Lenz

Glenard R. Lenz, age 94 of Norwood Young America, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township, Cologne with Rev. Don Andrix officiating; visitation was held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church; chapel service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening; interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Glenard’s grandchildren and their spouses. Honorary casket bearers Richard Dorn and Jim Beckendorf.

Glenard Robert Lenz, born May 4, 1918 on a farm north of Hydes Lake, the son of Paul and Clara (Stender) Lenz. He was baptized on May 26, 1918 at St. John’s Lutheran church in Young America by Pastor A. Baumhoefner. Glenard was confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 24, 1935 at St. John’s Lutheran church, Young America by Pastor W.P. Kramer. He received his education at Dist. 62 public school, a one-room schoolhouse. On May 31, 1941 Glenard was united in marriage to Mabel Rolf at Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne by Rev. Herman Am End. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Mavis, Lowell and Leon. The couple made their home on a farm near Hydes Lake. In 1949 they bought a farm at Gotha and in 1952 Glenard also started working as a carpenter. In 1955 he began selling certified seed and was a member of the MN Crop Improvement Association. Glenard was a Trustee at Zion Lutheran church for six years. After retiring he volunteered at Ridgeview Medical Center for seven years. He enjoyed working in his shop, hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family. Glenard and Mabel enjoyed 71 years of marriage together.

Glenard is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Clara Lenz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Melvin Schrupp, Edwin and Hilma Rolf, Bertha and Fred Quaas, Erna Wolter, Martha Schmidt, ReNata Loehrs, Marvin Rolf.

Glenard is survived by his wife Mabel Lenz of Norwood Young America; daughter and son-in-law Mavis and Robert Hillstrom of Belle Plaine; sons and daughters-in-law Lowell and Deb Lenz of Shakopee, Leon and Debbie Lenz of Norwood Young America; grandchildren and spouses Greg and Christine Hillstrom, Jeff and Cindy Lenz, Jenny and Steve Mielke, Amy and Joe Larson, Jared and Ashley Lenz; step-grandchildren and spouses Britany and Ryan Farrell, Chrissy and Matt Johnson, Jenna Lisecki; great-grandchildren Claire, Josh, Jayda, Logan, Conner, Josephine, Greta, Olivia; step-great-grandchildren Nathan, Sarah, Payton, Mason, Reid; sister Pearl Schrupp of Norwood Young America; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Erwin Schmidt of Norwood Young America, Erland Loehrs of Waconia, Ardell Wolter of Norwood Young America, Eunice and Harold Bruesehoff of Cologne; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
