Richard H. Holmberg, age 84 of Waconia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 4, 2012 after a short struggle with lung cancer. A funeral service was held on Monday July 9 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards with Rev. Adam W. Westrich officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial s preferred to Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House or to St. John’s United Church of Christ. Casket bearers were Jenna Halek, Jesse Weiland, Luke Holmberg, Sam Henschen, Leah Janzen, Claire Lambrecht, Ava Lambrecht, Mya Lambrecht, Maggie Holmberg and Mary Nielsen. Interment was at St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Bongards.
Richard was a math teacher at Gibbon for seven years, where he was also principal. He transferred to Minnetonka High School in 1959 and taught there until his retirement in 1985. Richard was very fortunate to enjoy 27 years of retirement. He and Lois spent winters in Arizona, and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. Richard liked golfing and getting together with is family circle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Pearl Holmberg; brother Ralph Holmberg.
He is survived by his wife Lois of 61 years; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Steve Weiland, Cindy and David Henschen, Liz and Robert Doppelhammer-Holmberg; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Jane Holmberg; grandchildren Jenna, Sam, Jesse, Leah, Claire, Ava, Mary, Mya, Luke and Maggie; great-grandchildren Will, Owen, Emma and Maggie.
