Glad Days coming up in Cologne

The 2012 Glad Days Committee has been hard at work and is ready to bring a weekend worth staying in town for!

Glad Days arrives next week, July 27-28. Many favorite events will be returning, along with some new and exciting features.

Glad Days begins with citywide garage sales on Thursday. Friday includes a softball tournament at Lions Park, the kickball tournament at Fritz Field and the annual Kid Fest at Marion Fields.

This year’s Kid Fest theme will be Halloween Town. The Kiddie Parade will start at 7 p.m. on Meadow and Gold Nugget, and this year there will be prizes for creativity in costumes, bikes, floats and wagons!

As usual the hot dog dinner sponsored by Klein Bank, games, activities, bouncers, fire truck rides and movie are all free thanks to a number of sponsors!

Organizers have also added a teen hayride and bonfire for the older kids! The hayride will leave at 8:30 p.m. and return at 10:30 p.m. Parents are responsible for signing up their child and signing a waiver at Kid Fest. Parents will also need to pick up children at Marion Fields at 10:30 p.m. The bonfire will be at the Kleindl Farm off Highway 51 outside of Cologne.

New on Saturday will be an inflatable fun zone with at three bouncers to keep the kids happy. All day wristbands will be available for $5. This fee will cover the cost of workers due to the lack of volunteers in the past.

Other additions include a bean bag tournament at Lions Park and Extreme Bingo put on by the new Leos Club! Saturday will start with the Kids Pedal Pull sponsored by the Cologne Fire Department, the Sheepshead Tournament and the 5K run for adults and kids sponsored by Youngstedts. Runners that want a shirt this year must pre-register online.

There will also be great vendors to shop and great food available all day. All the favorites like the dunk tank, toilet races, Lions Park food and games will be returning as well.

As for entertainment, organizers have put together a strong list. Brian Richards magic show, Nancy Buckentine and Friends, Jerry Kahle and Lowell Schubert are all sure to please the ears!

Back by popular demand is the Rock N Roll Wrestling with a bigger and better ring! And to end the weekend, new band Blurred Vision will perform at Lions Park for the 21 and over crowd.

Glad Days tickets are available from any Lions member for $2 and will be sold during the celebration on Friday and Saturday. Tickets will enter you in a raffle to win cash prizes and also give visitors a discounted admission into the dance.
