Local hockey player makes national development camp

Mound Resident Will Garin was selected to the U.S.A. Hockey National Development Camp in Rochester, New York, which took place July 15 through 21.

Players selected from all USA hockey districts teamed up with coaches to participate in a player development camp. All players are evaluated for possible future participation on future National USA Hockey teams.

The Minnesota selection process started earlier this year, approximately 500 players born in 1997 were nominated by their Bantam or High School coach. Through a series of tryouts, camps and games, Garin was one of 12 forwards selected, along with 8 defensemen and 2 goalies, to represent Minnesota at the National Development Camp. Approximately 100 players from throughout the entire U.S. will participate.

Will played Varsity Hockey as an eighth grader at Holy Family Catholic High School where he had 31 points last season. He will continue to play for Holy Family this year as a freshman.
