In Watertown, no event is bigger or better than Rails to Trails, the scenic river town’s annual festival.
Although the bulk of activities take place on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, the festival actually gets its start the week of July 16 with the always popular Golden Spike Contest. After a golf tournament on Wednesday, July 18, the main attractions of Rails to Trails begin on July 20.
Activities take place downtown, such as the Watertown Hold ‘Em promotion, a historical display, farmer’s market, bingo, and a street dance featuring The Basement Band. Up at Highland Park, visit the food court, take part in numerous kids activities, watch the waterball contest and a beanbag tournament, catch a baseball game featuring the Red Devils, and groove to music acts in the Big Tent.
On Saturday, the fun continues both downtown and at Highland Park. Events unique to Saturday include a 5K Fun Run and Walk, a kid’s fishing contest, duck race, the Grand Parade at noon, a car show, toilet bowl races and much more. Music acts include Chopper, the Jazz Hounds and Shaw Brothers.
