Filing now open for local elections

Filings for city, township and school board seats will open Tuesday, July 31 and remain open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

In Norwood Young America, seats up for election this year are currently held by Mayor Tina Diedrick (two years) and councilors JR Hoernemann and Richard Stolz (four years).

In Cologne, there are also three seats open. The seats are currently held by Mayor Bernie Shambour Jr. (two-year term) and councilors Jill Skaaland and Scott Williams (four years).

In Hamburg, seats up for election are currently held by Mayor Richard Malz (two years) and councilors Larry Mueller and John Mueller (four years).

Anyone interested in running for those positions can contact city hall in their respective cities.

Elections for the Central School Board will not take place until 2013, so there are no open seats to file for this year.

In surrounding townships there are a variety of seats up for election this year.

In Benton Township, two supervisor positions and the treasurer’s position – all four year terms – are open this year. To file, those interested can contact Clerk Terry Bruesehoff at (952) 466-2663.

Young America Township has four-year supervisor and clerk seats up for election. Those interested should contact Clerk Lothar Wolter Jr. at (952) 467-3834.

Hancock Township has two four-year supervisor positions open, along with a four-year treasurer position and a two-year clerk position. Those interested should contact Clerk Tamara Ekstrom at (952) 334-1618.

Camden Township has a four-year supervisor position and a four-year clerk position open. To file, those interested should contact Clerk Roger Sauerbrey at (952) 657-2431.
