Young America remains the only local team still standing after the first round of playoffs resulted in the elimination of Hamburg, Cologne and Norwood.
Hamburg lost a best-of-three series against Young America in two games, suffering an 8-6 defeat in 11 innings in the first game, then getting shut out 2-0 in the second game. The Hawks finished the year with an 11-13 mark.
Cologne also lost its series in two games to Brownton. In the first game the Hollanders fell by an 8-3 score, and in the second game they again gave up eight runs and lost in an 8-1 final. Cologne posted a 7-16 record overall this year.
Norwood’s difficult season, which included just one win, ended in a 2-0 sweep by Green Isle. The Irish won the first game by an 11-0 score, and finished the Indians off with a 11-1 win in the second game. The Indians finished the season with a 1-22 overall record.
Two Hawks, one Hollander taken in draft
While Hamburg, Cologne and Norwood are out of the playoffs, a few local players from Hamburg and Cologne will continue playing in this year’s Region 7C tournament after being drafted by remaining teams. Mike Mueller of Hamburg was selected by Brownton. Darran Greene of Hamburg was selected by Young America, and Carver has selected Alex Buckentine of Cologne
