After a third place finish in the North Division of the Crow River Valley League, the Watertown Red Devils amateur baseball swept St. Boni last weekend to advance to the opening round of the Region 7C tournament in Young America.
The Red Devils beat St. Boni 10-0 on Tuesday, July 24, to take a 1-0 lead in the series, and finished off the sweep on Thursday, July 26, with a 9-3 win.
In the first round, the Red Devils will take on Brownton in Young America. Brownton finished 16-5 and took second place in the South Division, just a game behind division champion Green Isle. Watertown finished with an 11-9 record in the North Division, finishing behind Waconia (17-3) and Winsted (13-11).
If Watertown beats Brownton in the first round, the Red Devils would play either Carver or Waconia on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 1p.m. If the Red Devils lose their first-round game, they would play the loser of that same Carver/Waconia matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.
The tournament semifinals are set for Saturday, Aug. 11, with the championship set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12.
New Germany finished the regular season 7-13 and was defeated by Glencoe in its series last week. Mayer finished 2-18 and was swept by Winsted, 2-0, last week.
