Verna B. Miller

Verna B. Miller, age 99, of Waconia and formerly Victoria, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lake Auburn Moravian Church in Victoria with Rev. Brian Dixon officiating; visitation one hour prior to the service at the church; interment at the church cemetery.

Verna Bertha Anna Miller was born on Dec. 21, 1912 to Albert J. and Elizabeth (Gatz) Kellermann in St. Paul, Minn. The family moved to the Inver Grove Heights/Hastings area in 1917 and in 1920 relocated to Waconia. Verna was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 9, 1926 by Pastor W.G. Schneider.

After graduating from Waconia High School in 1932, she attended Normal College (teacher training). She taught in country schools in Carver County for six years. This required starting a fire in the stove, fetching drinking water and teaching students ranging from first through eighth grade. One year she had both her sisters as pupils.

In May of 1940 she was united in marriage to Maurice W. Miller. They farmed at Victoria until Maurice’s death in March of 1966.

Verna and Maurice had two children: Robert M. born July 13, 1942 and Maxine Ruth born Feb. 4, 1950. Maxine passed away on Feb. 23, 2012.

After Maurice’s death, she rented out the cropland until the farm was sold in 1985. Verna moved to a twin home in Chaska, Minn., where she resided until 2005 when she moved to Westview Acres in Waconia. In August of 2011 Verna moved to the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

Verna was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, enjoying crossword puzzles and word finds. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors. Verna enjoyed travel to many locations worldwide including England, Egypt, China and a Serengeti safari in Uganda. Many of these trips were taken with Maxine who was her good friend as well as her daughter. Verna loved the Lord and was an active member of Lake Auburn Moravian Church. After her husband’s death, she often said her help came from the Lord; Psalm 121 was one of her favorites.

Verna was an incredibly kind person, and a very hard worker her entire life. She will be missed.
