The annual night out events to raise awareness of crime and safety are coming to the area cities of Mound and Minnetrista on the evening of Aug. 7.
In Mound, the police and fire departments will be out traveling to each Night to Unite location in the city. A drawing will also bring bouncy houses out to two different Night to Unite locations in the city.
Mound Police Chief Dean Mooney said the areas that win the drawing for the inflatable jump houses will have an added entertainment element for children.
"We will have bouncy house for the small kids to play around in," he said. "They will be free of charge, and we will use them as part of the attraction."
Mooney also said they hope representatives from both departments in Mound will appear at every block party.
"We will get a police representative and fire representative to every event at some point during the evening," he said. "I’m just hoping people have a nice time and we have a picnic with this."
A surprise visit by the police department’s canine dog, Reagan, could also be in the cards for some locations in Mound.
"We have the potential, if the weather cooperates, to have the police canine show up for some kids," said Mooney. "We promise we won’t have our canine use a person as dessert."
The Mound Night to Unite will be taking place Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. Fire and police representatives could be joined by McGruff the Crime Dog as well.

In Minnetrista, the evening of Aug. 7 will also be the time for their National Night Out events in the area.
There will be 16 different block parties taking place, including two in St. Bonifacius.
Minnetrista Sergeant Michael Kokesh said that, on average, the Hunters Crest Development in Minnetrista generates the largest showing in the area.
"The Hunters Crest Development in Minnetrista has the biggest party, usually," he said. "In the previous years they have had live bands, this year I understand they are having a D.J."
Kokesh said in the past Target, the FBI, the St. Bonifacius Fire Department and the State Patrol have been at the block party in the Hunters Crest Development. He also said that the Ox Yoke Circle neighborhood in Minnetrista has a parade every year on National Night Out.
"I know that Ox Yoke Circle will be having a neighborhood parade, this is something they do every year and kids can decorate their bikes, wagons, etcetera," he said. "The parade is led by Minnetrista Police and St. Boni Fire."
Kokesh said that the St. Bonifacius Fire and the Minnetrista Police will try to go to all of the block parties in the area.
"We (will) hand goodies (out) such as Pencils, Plastic Cups and Frizbees this year," he said. "Most parties will see a visit from either Mound or St. Boni Fire, along with a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog."
