After hearing complaints about inconsiderate boater behavior at the public access in Nelson Lakeside Park, the Long Lake City Council approved new regulations for the area.

At its July 31 meeting, the council unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting people from leaving boats or other watercraft unattended at the launch at any time. Long Lake City Administrator Terry Post said that the there have been cases where people left boats unattended at the launch, sometimes for days at a time, which inconvenienced others who wanted to launch watercraft.

Prior to the council’s July 31 action, the city had no ordinance regulating the matter so members of the Hennepin County Water Patrol could not take any enforcement actions against people who left watercraft at the site.

The ordinance also prohibits using the launch ramp for swimming or diving.

Post said that staff will post a sign at the access to inform boaters of the ordinance.
