Paint The Town

CAP agency
FIRST AND THIRD MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS — The CAP Agency WIC Voucher pick-up times for all residents of Carver County are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the East Creek Family Center (303 E 6th Street, Chaska). For more information about WIC, call the CAP Agency at (952) 402-9869.

LEO Club meetings
FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS — Cologne Leos meet at 6:30 pm at 107 Paul Avenue South Cologne mn. 55322 (The Clubhouse). The group is also doing a monthly Parents Night Out to raise money for its rent. It consists of parents signing up and dropping their kids off at the Clubhouse on the nights the Leos are hosting and the group will provide crafts, games, a pancake meal popcorn and a movie. Preschool open house
THURSDAY, AUG. 23 — Open house at St. John’s Preschool from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Openings still available for three and four year olds. Call (952) 467-3461 for information.

FRIDAY, AUG. 24 TO SUNDAY, AUG. 26 — Norwood Young America’s annual community celebration, the oldest community festival in the state, begins Friday afternoon and runs until Sunday evening. See upcoming editions of the Times for more details.

Sheephead tourney
SATURDAY, AUG. 25 — The 9th Annual Stiftungsfest Sheephead Tourney starts in the NYA Pavilion at 9 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the NYA Lions.

Motorcycle run
SATURDAY, AUG. 25 — The annual Stiftungsfest motorcycle run will begin at Willkommen Park and depart from Central Avenue and Main Street at noon. Register starting at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds to benefit the West Carver Food Shelf.

History center hours
SATURDAY, AUG. 25 AND SUNDAY, AUG. 26 — The Willkommen Heritage Center will have extended hours on Saturday and Sunday during Stiftungsfest. Saturday the Center will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday the hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Center is located at 102 E. Main St., NYA. Special displays have been set up commemorating the 151st Stiftungsfest.

Class of ’07 reunion
SUNDAY, AUG. 26 — Students from Central’s Class of 2007 are invited to a reunion lunch on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the beach shelter at Baylor Park. For more information, please check Facebook or send an email to [email protected]

10th anniversary
SUNDAY, AUG. 26 — Living Rock Church in NYA is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a 10 a.m. worship service at its farm property, including an outdoor baptism service and children’s program. Food and fun for the whole family.

VFW Auxiliary mtg
MONDAY, AUG. 27 — The VFW Auxiliary 1783 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Midtown Family Restaurant.

Legion Aux. meeting
TUESDAY, SEPT. 4 — The Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Midtown restaurant. Note the date change; due to Labor Day the group will be meeting the first Tuesday rather then the first Monday. Class of 1972 reunion
SATURDAY, SEPT. 8 — Members of the 1972 graduating class of Central High school are invited to come celebrate their 40th class reunion starting at 7 p.m. at the Gasthaus Bar in NYA.

Special Bible study
MONDAY, SEPT. 10 — St. John’s Lutheran Church (101 SE 2nd Ave, NYA) is hosting a Beth Moore Bible study titled “Mercy Triumphs,” an eight-week DVD/workbook study on the book of James, beginning Sept. 10. Word on Wednesday
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 12 — WOW (Word on Wednesday), an after school program for children in grades 1-5, begins Sept. 12.
