Junior forward Matt Scanlon scored six goals in two games last Saturday to lead the Watertown-Mayer boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 start and the championship of the Becker Invitational.
The Royals opened with a 5-2 win over host Becker in the first round. Scanlon scored four goals in that game, and Christian Bakke tallied the other for the Royals.
The Royals won the tournament title, the second time they’ve won an in-season tournament in the last two years, by beating Two Harbors, 2-1. Scanlon scored both goals in that game.
The Royals also took on Delano on Monday, and return to action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Prep. The Royals also play Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Rockford at 5 p.m.
