Erwin E. Goethke, age 88, of Waconia, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at his home in Waconia.
Funeral service held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Phil Wagner officiating; visitation Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and one hour prior to the service at church; chapel service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening; interment Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Erwin was born on April 12, 1924 in Laketown Twp., Carver County the son of William O.L. and Lillie (Beversdorf) Goethke. He was baptized on April 12, 1924 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by Rev. William F. Schneider and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by Rev. William F. Schneider. On April 26, 1946 Erwin was united in marriage to Esther L. Luebke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by Rev. Robert Heyne.
Erwin had many interests in his life which included: spear fishing, deer hunting gardening, bird watching, cutting or splitting wood, or just being outdoors. He would teach his grandchildren grandpa’s way of doing things. Erwin was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia being on the Trinity PTL committee, money counter, School board, and his pride and joy was taking care of the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Erwin held many jobs in his life, first being a farmer, growing and selling corn, worked at the Victoria Lumber Yard from 1966- 1989, drove school bus for 20 years and delivered the Gold Miner for the last six years. He was a Pleasant Valley 4-H leader and a member of the Waconia Snow Goers. Erwin had a strong faith and would read the Portal of Prayer on a daily basis.
Erwin was preceded in death by his grandson Brad Dummer Jr.; father and mother William and Lillie Goethke; brothers Wallace and Kermit “Jim” Goethke; sisters Jean Ebert and Fairy Koehnen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
Erwin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Esther; children and spouses Paul and Maryann Goethke of Medina, Ohio, LuAnn and Brad Dummer of Denver, N.C., Judy and Stan Ashman of Waconia, Mark and Jennifer Goethke of Hopkins; grandchildren Adam Dummer, Sarah Dummer, Michael Ashman; step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and husband Alice and Maurice Leuthner of Victoria; brother-in-law and wife Bill and Kathy Ebert Sauk Rapids; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
