It’s Nickle Dickle Day … again!

Chamber Notes by Kellie Sites

Nickle Dickle Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15. The fun begins at 8 a.m.! This one-day event is a must-do for 20,000 people every year. You can find all the details on our website, www.destinationwaconia.org.
Why does the Chamber keep putting on this big community celebration? Because it works! 51 years ago some businessmen got together to talk about how to bring more people to town. Over the years with the contributions of Tim Litfin and now Tiffany Nelson of Community Education adding fun runs, Dave Philp organizing the 3-on-3 basketball tournament as a St. Joe’s fund raiser and Mike Keaveny leading the helm of the fantastic car show, it gets better every year.
This Chamber of Commerce event has become an important fund raising opportunity for many organizations in our community, as well as continuing to be the top sales day for many of our shops.
When you’re buying a brat from the Fire Department, remember to say, “Thanks for all you do!” Why is Buffalo Wild Wings here? A percentage of their proceeds benefit the Waconia High School choir boosters. D’Vinci’s? The Marching Band. Pork Burgers from the Lions on Elm Street — profits go right back into the community because of all the great things the Lions do here in town.
Love good books? Check out the fantastic books sale at the Waconia Public Library. Watch the Duck races and notice the businesses participating — they are community supporters through the Rotary! And don’t miss the Waconia United Food Shelf dunk tank. Other ways businesses participate is by sponsoring through goods/services/cash and volunteering to sell beverages in the Chamber booth. Special thanks to Becky Larsen, RE/MAX Results, for all of her leadership and dedication in organizing the “pop booth.”
This is also a major fund raiser for the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau that makes it possible for Waconia to have a Chamber office with staff! With close to 130 vendors in the park, and the sales of beverages, your purchases benefit our town in that way … thank you!
New this year, all the runs and the 5k walk start and end at Bayview Elementary school. Radio Disney will be there to get all the runners ready to run!
And remember the Pie Eating contest? The Waconia Patriot is once again sponsoring this fun event at the Gazebo in City Square Park at 12:30 p.m. Following that is the $200 award given to the Nickle Dickle Day Medallion finder!
Love music? Be at City Square Park for Wendinger Polka from 8 to 10 a.m. Then have the kids rally around for Chopper until 1:50 — when Laketown Gymnastics does a demo on the grass. Around 2 p.m. enjoy the sounds of Traveled Ground with Jen Bostic who will be visiting from Nashville. Feel like riding a mechanical bull? This is your chance! On First Street from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., not only are there cars, but DJ Big Country will be there to help you ride that bull.
If you’re around on Friday, check out the beginning of some amazing sales at our shops around town … just like in the good old days … and as always, shopping local ensures a vibrant economy in the town we love so much!
