Deb Olson, member of Tri-County Toastmasters in Watertown and resident of Winsted, was surprised and honored on July 21 by being named the Prairie Division Area Governor of the Year by Prairie Division Governor Rich Andresen.

For 2011-2012, she was the Area 64 Governor, serving Toastmasters clubs in Willmar, Hutchinson, Watertown, and Chaska.  At the Awards Luncheon held during the District 6 Toastmasters Leadership Institute, Division Governor Andresen thanked all his Area Governors for their service to their clubs and willingness to help with Division activities, but noted award winner Deb Olson’s persistent efforts to save a Chaska club that was about to fold.  On June 28, just two days before the close of the Toastmasters calendar year, she logged the miles necessary to complete the paperwork that kept this club alive and will allow it a fresh start in a new location: Delano.

Area Governors are charged with assisting 3-5 clubs in meeting their education, leadership, and training goals and following Toastmasters International’s tried and proven program.  They also oversee two area speech contests each year and assist with division and district contests and events.
