Thanks to all who visited the historical displays

To the editor:

On behalf of the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society, I would like to thank all who visited the Heritage Tent and the Heritage Center during Stiftungsfest.

The success of both sites would not have been possible without the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly in preparation. Special thanks to the owners of the Century Farms, which highlighted the tent display. Their pride in the history of their farms was evident in their displays.

The Century Farm owners include Curtis and Deanna Wolter, Gerry and Genelle Schimelphenig, Larry and Jeannette Bachmann, Charles and Deb Schrupp, Ron and Shirley Trick, DuWayne and Shirley Schmitz, Richard and Judy  Braunwarth, and Duane and Darlene Heuer.

There are no words to express our gratitude in making the Heritage Tent a success. The layout and design was orchestrated by board member RoseMary Brown.

If you didn’t get into the Willkommen Heritage Center, there is still time to see the display commemorating Stiftungsfest and the Diedesfeld Band and the housing additions that once were farms in the community.  The  Proclamation making Diedesfeld, Germany a sister city, is on display. The displays will stay up through Sept. 30.

The Heritage Center is fortunate to have Rosie Gutcknecht, Sharilyn Feltmann, Ruth Harms, Dorothy Bohnen, RoseMary Brown, Nettie Lehrke, and Diane Feltmann to design and create all the displays for  the Heritage Center.

Please stop in and visit. We are open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We survive due to the gracious donation of the city, and our nominal membership fee and other donations.

We are always looking for new members and ideas for the displays. If you are interested in joining our organization for the $15 annual fee, please call the Heritage Center at (952) 467-4227.

Don’t put God in a Sunday morning box

To the editor:

After living in the Norwood-Young America area for over 60 years, and, as Mr. Krueger knows, having been quite active in the community during that time, I believe I have the right to still care! I am not just some “buttinsky” minding someone else’s business.

My letter was not about the “Bridge to Nowhere,” as it was about the hypocrisy of those who say they believe in God, but want to keep Him in a Sunday morning box and not let Him be Lord over daily life.

Either He is Lord of All, or He is nothing at all!

Choose ye this day whom you would serve: Either the Mighty Creator and Savior or the god of your own smarts.

The First is the Only Source of Every Good. The second is the source of “???”

Please take time to pray (James 1:5) before you respond this time, that you not be guilty of taking God’s Name in vain.

Vote yes for the Marriage Protection Amendment

To the editor:

At the close of many of the speeches delivered at the political conventions recently was this phrase: “God Bless America.”

What did the speakers really mean? Was it sincere? How can we expect our Triune God to Bless our American Homeland, when we are not living in the will of God? Many human lives are being aborted. Many are trying to redefine the meaning of marriage.

It is amazing to hear all the lies that are being put forth in regards to the Marriage Protection Amendment that is to be added to our state constitution. Yes, I call them lies, because the truth can only be found in God’s Word. And when we no longer follow God’s Word, the Bible, in our lives, how can we expect God to bless our land and its inhabitants?

Marriage was ordained by God in the Garden of Eden. In the Beginning, God created male and female. We read about it in Genesis 1 and 2. It was the one thing that was not “very good” when God created the world. Genesis 2:18 reads “It is not good for man to be alone.” So God made a woman, and brought them together in this relationship called marriage. It is the means God has chosen for procreation. What God intended marriage to be in the beginning, He still intends marriage to be.

Jesus proclaims this in Mark 10: 6-8: “But at the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

It is my prayer that all Christians who confess the Christian Faith and believe in Jesus as our Savior from all sin and death, will let His word of truth be your guide, as you go to the polls in November and vote yes for the Marriage Protection Amendment to preserve marriage as between one man and one woman.
