Maxwell Herrera of Cologne is one of 23 Minnesota 4-H Purple Ribbon Auction recipients.
He was recognized for his leadership and personal growth through his 4-H experience, and received a $1,000 scholarship award sponsored by long-time youth supporter Corn Roast (Brad and Lori Ribar) to help further his education.
Herrera started his 4-H career with involvement in the sheep project. He has been involved with the Minnesota State Fair since 2006, participated in general livestock judging, and other volunteer opportunities. He is a junior at the University of Iowa – Iowa City and plans to pursue a degree in Biology. After the completion of his degree, he would like to attend a Master’s program at the University of Minnesota or Iowa State University, studying Veterinary Medicine for production livestock. His parents are Anton and Deborah Herrera.
The Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association (MLBA) coordinates the scholarship program and annual auction. The scholarships were presented preceding the 33rd Minnesota Purple Ribbon Auction on Saturday, Aug. 25 in the AgStar Arena at the Minnesota State Fair.
