Obit: Sylvester Van Eyll
Sylvester (Ves) Van Eyll, 85, of Waconia and Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Young America, passed away on Sept. 18, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Ascension in NYA at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 with a visitation two hours prior to Mass.
Ves was born July 19, 1927 in Dahlgren Township, rural Chaska, to John and Regina (Dircks) Van Eyll. He was baptized, received First Communion and Confirmation all from Guardian Angels in Chaska. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and returned a WWII veteran in 1947. On Dec. 29, 1949 he was united in marriage to Laura Heimkes at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Green Isle. This union was blessed with three children, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ves was a long time member of the Church of the Ascension in NYA as well as a life member of the Young America VFW Post 1783, a long time member of the Waconia American Legion Post 150 and the ELKS in Hutchinson. Ves enjoyed his winters in the Arizona heat, but more so his life revolved around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Laura; children: Gary (Barb) of Chaska, Wanda (John) Schmitt of Madison, Todd of Eagan; grandchildren: Kerrie (Dave) Thompson, James Van Eyll, Amanda (Brett) Baumann, Stephanie (Brian) Landkammer, Jonathon Kelzer, Emily (Brian) Johnson, Jesse, Danny and Brian Van Eyll; 12 great-grandchildren; brother: Donald (Joyce); sisters: Loretta Straus, Harriet Krautbauer, Lucille (Toots) Wagner; brothers-in-law: Virgil (JoAnne) Heimkes, Ray (Doris) Heimkes; sisters-in-law: RoseMary (Earl) Heimkes, Lorraine (Russ) Heimkes, and many other relatives and friends.
