Love INC – Heartland (Love in the Name of Christ) invites community members to participate in the 7th Annual SleepOut Fundraiser.

The SleepOut will be held on Saturday, Oct.13, and will take place at churches across the area. The SleepOut Fundraiser is one of Love INC – Heartland’s most important annual events. The fundraiser is intended to promote awareness about poverty and homelessness in our communities. Participants will sleep in tents or cardboard boxes to experience, on a small level, what it life is like for people who lack the basic need of shelter.

Camps will be set up at Love INC – Heartland partner churches throughout the area. Sleepers will collect donations to support Love INC’s important work in our area. Youth and adults from all community organizations – including churches, scout groups, volunteer organizations – and even families, are invited and encouraged to participate.

For the first time, Love INC – Heartland will be hosting a food giveaway in conjunction the SleepOut Fundraiser. Free, quality food will be given away to neighbors in need. The food giveaway will be held in Rockford.

The need in our area is great. In Minnesota, over 10 percent of Minnesotans are “food insecure,” meaning their access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money or other resources.

“Our annual SleepOut Fundraiser is one of our key fundraising events of the year,” said Terri Harris, Executive Director of Love INC – Heartland. “It is an excellent way for us to come together, across our communities, for one common goal. Hosting the Food Giveaway in conjunction with this event is a great way to serve our communities and help our neighbors in need.”

Community members interested in sleeping outside, donating money to support Love INC, or to help with the Food Giveaway should contact the Love INC offices at 763-972-6547.
