‘Beginning Acting’
Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “Beginning Acting” Thursdays, Oct. 25 through Nov. 15 from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. at Bayview Elementary School in Waconia. Students in grades 1-4 will learn the “how to” of theatre (character dynamics, costuming, basic acting, auditioning and more) through authentic theatre games and exercises. Fall Softener Salt Sale
The Waconia Wrestling and Baseball teams have kicked off their annual fall water softener salt sale. District 110 residents can order salt and have it delivered to their homes on Saturday, Oct. 13. Three types of softener salt are available, including coarse, pellet and iron. All proceeds benefit the WHS Wrestling and Baseball teams. Info: Kelly at (612) 396-1358.

Marriage Amend. event
THURSDAY, OCT. 11 – A Marriage Amendment Discussion featuring guest speaker John Rodgers of the Minnesota Catholic Conference will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia.

Community Action meeting
THURSDAY, OCT. 11 – Calling all leaders, volunteers, and community members interested in serving people in need around Waconia. An informational meeting about the Community Action Committee will be held at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. The meeting will introduce the committee’s ideas for creating a network which links local organizations together to better serve the community.

SVABW Open House
FRIDAY, OCT. 12 – The public is invited to attend Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women’s Legislative Open House and 30th Anniversary Celebration from 2 to 5 p.m. at 551 East Park Street, Belle Plaine. Family Fall Festival
FRIDAY, OCT. 12 – The community is invited to the Family Fall Festival at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the gym. Children, preschool-4th grade, will enjoy a bounce house, hayride, face painting, games, prizes, and more! Walking tacos, beverages, and dessert will be served.

Waconia FCA
FRIDAY, OCT. 12 – Visit the Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes at its trailer at the Waconia football game. The group will play dodge ball, enjoy ice cream, and share a great message at Crown College from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.

St. Bernard Chili Feed
SATURDAY, OCT. 13 – The Church of St. Bernard, 212 Church St. E., Cologne will hold a Chili Feed after the 5 p.m. Mass. Join St. Bernard’s for live music, a chili supper (free-will offering), refreshments and fellowship. Tickets for the cash raffle can be purchased at the door for $25 (does not include supper). Drawings are from 6-9 p.m. with cash prizes from $50 to $500. Need not be present to win.

Steak fry dinner
SATURDAY, OCT. 13 – A steak fry dinner will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive Street, Waconia). Includes baked potato, cole slaw, bread, beverage. Price: $10.

East Union Country Fare
SATURDAY, OCT. 13 – The East Union Country Fare will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at East Union Lutheran Church. Annual fundraiser incudes luncheon, crafts, collectibles, baked goods, quilted items, garden produce, desserts and more.

Public Rosary event
SATURDAY, OCT. 13 – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia will hold a public rosary at noon near the church on the corner across from the rectory. Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket. Info: Patrick at (612) 718-1477.

Dad’s Belgian Waffles
SUNDAY, OCT. 14 – The St. Boni Lions will be serving Dad’s Belgian Waffles, sausages, syrups and drinks from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Boniface School. Tickets: $7, available from Lions members. Takeouts available. All-you-can-eat; children under 5 eat free.

Caregiver Support Group
MONDAY, OCT. 15 – Encore’s Carver County Adult Day Services Program and Emerald Crest Assisted Living Memory Care have partnered up to provide a Caregiver Support Group to address the issues of caring for the aging. This is a great opportunity to meet and talk with other caregivers and local senior professionals to gain insight, resources and support! This Support Group meets from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Encore Adult Day Program located across from the museum in Waconia. Info: (952) 442-7660.

CCLCCA meeting
TUESDAY, OCT. 16 – CCLCCA (Carver County Licensed Family Child Care Provider Association) will hold its monthly training and networking at the Early Childhood Center (10600 Village Road, Chaska) from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Free training to members or $25 for nonmembers. Sons of Norway
TUESDAY, OCT. 16 – Sons of Norway – Scandia Lodge – Waconia will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Island View Golf Club in Waconia. Theme: Skogfjorden Language Camp.  Camp veteran Kevin Kittleson will share stories of his experiences. Cash social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by an Oktoberfest buffet. Voter ID event
TUESDAY, OCT. 16 – The Carver County Republican Party is sponsoring a Voter ID Amendment meeting that will be held at 2 p.m. at Westview Acres in Waconia. Speaker: John Rouleau, a recent St. Thomas graduate with a Political Science degree with an emphasis on Constitutional Law. Attendees will be able to ask questions and make comments. Open to the public.

Senior Expo
THURSDAY, OCT. 18 – The 2012 Carver County Senior Expo “The Season Never Ends” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Waconia High School. Event focuses on health care, services, and retirement and includes vendor fair, health screening, lunch, music, door prizes and more. Keynote speaker: Don Shelby. Candidate forums
THURSDAY, OCT. 18 – The League of Women Voters Eastern Carver County will host a Senate District 47 Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. in the Carver County Commissioners Chambers, Carver County Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, Chaska. A Carver County Commissioners – District 1 Candidate Forum will follow at 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Country Music show
SATURDAY, OCT. 20 – A two-hour country music show featuring Red Johnson, “country music with a heart,” and cowboy poet Rich Bellert will be held at 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Waconia. Event includes tribute to the late Walt Schmakel. Tickets: $10, available in advance at the club or at the door. All welcome.

Pet Adoption Day
SATURDAY, OCT. 20 – Carver Scott Humane Society volunteers will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m. at PETCO in Eden Prairie. Cats and dogs available; all have been micro ID implanted, vet checked, wormed, had shots updated, checked for friendly temperaments, and age appropriately spayed/neutered. Omelette Breakfast
SUNDAY, OCT. 21 – An omelette breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Waconia American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive St.). Includes toast, hash browns, beverage. Adults: $8, children 12 and under: $4.

Pancake Breakfast
SUNDAY, OCT. 21 – The New Germany Commercial Club is hosting its annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the village hall. All profits are put back into parks and children’s holiday parties.

‘Wurst’ Dinner
SUNDAY, OCT. 21 – Trinity Lutheran Church & School in Waconia is hosting a Brat“Wurst” Dinner from noon to 2 p.m. in the Trinity Fellowship Hall. Dinner of brats, German potato salad, apple turnovers, and drinks will be served. An optional children’s menu of hot dog, potato chips, apple turnover, and drink available. Adults: $8, children: $4. Proceeds will help Trinity youth travel to the National Youth Gathering in Texas in July 2013.
