Mayer Lutheran runners second at LeSueur-Henderson
Before the MRC Championships on Oct. 11, the Mayer Lutheran/Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity cross country team got a taste of their conference competitors in a new way.
Competing at LeSueur-Henderson on Oct. 2, the Crusaders participated in coed relays. The varsity race is shortened (for boys) and lengthened (for girls) to 4.3 kilometers, approximately 2.65 miles. Both boys and girls run the course at the same time, and the top five boys and girls from each team generate the team score.
“The teams competing are most of the same teams that we meet this week at the Minnesota River Conference meet, so this is a great meet to have on our schedule, to mix things up a bit,” head coach Renae Johnson said.
The Crusaders finished second with 226 points, falling to Belle Plaine (179 points). Alex Fredrickson won the race with a time of 14:29, closely followed by Kyle Fredrickson in fourth (15:05) and Hannah Truniger in 11th (15:56).
Also in the top 20 were Jacob Roth (15th) and Ben Quiram (17th). Also competing for the Crusaders was Alex Mielke (21st), Holly Johnson (34th), Emilie Berry (37th), Sarah Ruschmeier (38th), and Marie Landskroener (48th).
The junior varsity Crusaders also fared well, and included Wyatt Entinger (third), Jason Entinger (12th), Jake Daniels (17th), Andrew Jackson (23rd), Dale Lemmer (24th), Nina Kukowski (30th), and Mikaela Norman (36th).
