Ivar E. Johnson, age 81, of Waconia, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House in Chaska.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct.13, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Dale Peterson officiating; Interment in the Faith Rutz Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ivar Edgar Johnson was born on Feb. 26, 1931 in Carver, Minn., the son of Edgar N. and Emma (Anderson) Johnson. On June 14, 1952, Ivar was united in marriage to Janet D. Clare at West Union Lutheran Church in Carver.
Ivar honorably served his country from July 9, 1952 until June 9, 1954 in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was based in Japan for 18 months.
Ivar was an avid sports fan and truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved spending time with his family and friends on Potato Lake near Park Rapids. Often Ivar could be found with his golden retriever Brandy by his side, whether it was at home, at work or in the car.
Ivar was in the construction business for 54 years, and would often find him woodworking in his shop. He was a member of the Waconia Lions Club, Waconia Rotary Club and the Ridgeview Hospital Board. Ivar collected Red Farmall Tractors and loved eating lutefisk, sweets and candy.
Ivar is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Emma Johnson; sisters Inez Plocher, Lorraine Brahee, Irene Johnson; brothers-in-law Ross Brahee, Harry Gillette, Donald Clare, Leon Clare; father-in-law Carl Clare, mother-in-law Sue Clare; and Nephews.
Ivar is survived by his loving family; wife Janet; children and spouses Melissa and Dan Schrupp of Glencoe, Todd and Jan Johnson of Waconia, Thomas and Lynn Johnson of Waconia, Jody and Jim Wabbe of New Germany, Ann and Jeff Fuller of New Germany; grandchildren Molly and Chad Henke, Mark Schrupp, Reed Johnson, Clare Johnson, David Wabbe, Emma Wabbe, Hanna Wabbe, Lucas Johnson, Tatum Johnson, Tess Johnson, Austin Fuller, Ally Fuller; great-grandchildren Colton Henke and Chase Henke; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Dorothy Johnson of St. Croix Falls, Wis.; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Chuck Hurl of Bella Vista, Alaska; brother-in-law Wilfred Plocher of Waconia; sister-in-law Patricia Jordan of Mountain Lake.
Serving as urn bearers are his grandchildren.
