The Watertown-Mayer/Delano girls’ swimming and diving team was in action twice last week, once at home in a Wright County Conference dual against Dassel-Cokato, and again on Saturday in the Section 8AA True Team Section Meet at Elk River.
Against Dassel-Cokato, the Royals lost 94-76, but did have a number of swimmers post wins on parents’ night. Kayla Stevens won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.47 seconds, Thea Clark won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.93 and Noelle Johnson finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.59. The Royals also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, when Addie Weber, Klara Koch, Alexa Asbury and Stevens teamed to finish first with a time of 1:47.89.
Stevens also added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle against DC, finishing with a time of 2:06.67. Other second-place finishes including Kalley Johnson, who was second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.83, and Sommer Heikkila, who was second in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:30.79.
Heikkila also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:11.27. Addie Weber also had two third-place finishes for the Royals, in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.36 seconds and in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.90. Other third-place finishes went to Noelle Johnson in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.51, Jenna Grangroth in the 200-yard IM in 2:33.12 and Mia Lindgren in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.93.
The Royals were also in action Saturday at the Section 8AA True Team meet, when they finished seventh with 736 points. Maple Grove won the meet with 1,190 points.
The top individual finish for the Royals belonged to Andi Jo Shrode, who broke the school record in diving by scoring 378.3 points to finish in second place. Kayla Stevens also had a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.68. Noelle Johnson was eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:49.91, Kalley Johnson took ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.46 and Thea Clark took 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.58.
The Royals were also in action on Tuesday for a non-conference dual at Shakopee, and will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27, for the Wright County Conference meet at Hutchinson at noon.
