The season has come to a close for the Mayer Lutheran boys’ and girls’ soccer teams after first round losses in Section 6A play.
Falling 11-0 at Holy Family on Oct. 9, the Crusader girls wrapped up the 2012 season on a four-game loss streak with losses to Southwest Christian, Watertown-Mayer, Glencoe-Silver Lake, and Holy Family.
The Crusaders last victory was a 6-0 win over Prairie Seeds Academy on Sept. 25. Mayer Lutheran finished the season 4-8-1. Head coach Stefan Wismar said there wasn’t much to say about the 11-0 shutout against the Fire.
“The girls played hard to the end against a very good team,” he said.
Holy Family went on to defeat No.6 Waconia before falling to No. 2 Orono. Orono fell in the section title game to Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
The LHS boys’ soccer team also fell in the first round of sections, in a 9-0 loss to No. 3 Breck. Head coach Josh Hanley said the team was simply outclassed.
“No ifs, ands, or buts about it,” he said.
Hanley credited his team with playing with a never-give-up attitude that kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard for the first 20 minutes of play. Breck fell to Waconia in the section finals on Oct. 16. Look for season wraps of both teams next week.
