Obituary: Aurelia Brockoff

Aurelia (Mrs. Herb) Brockoff, age 91, of Cologne, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne. Visitation was Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and also one hour prior to the service. Chapel service was 7 p.m. Monday evening. Interment Church Cemetery.

Aurelia was born on May 1, 1921 in Wright, Minn., the daughter of Reinhard and Rachel (Schmidt) Sprengeler. She was baptized on May 23, 1921 in Wright by Rev. William Drews and confirmed on April 14, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church Benton Twp., Cologne by Rev. Herman AmEnd.

On Jan. 23, 1942 Aurelia was united in marriage to Herbert Brockoff at the Sprengeler Home Farm by Rev. Ferdinand Sprengeler. Aurelia was married 63 years to Herbert Brockoff. They had four children, Annette, Hollace, Hilbern and Harland. Aurelia had one grandson, Justin Brockoff. Aurelia was of German descent and had spoken the language all her life. She was a homemaker and mother on the farm. Aurelia was a seamstress who made her own patterns. She designed her own home, which took 20 years to finally get her dream house built in 1966-67, indoor plumbing and all. Aurelia also would do hair styling for her friends.

Keeping a genealogy of her family was her favorite hobby. Aurelia and her husband, Herbert had seven letters in their names, so their children’s names would too. Any daughters born would have the letter “A” and any sons would have the letter “H.” Other hobbies included beads, crafting, Christmas ornaments, cards, visiting and road trips with her husband to Texas, Florida, Hawaii, California, Washington State and New Jersey.

Aurelia was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; son-in-law Gerald Quaas; parents Reinhard and Rachel Sprengeler; brothers and sister-in-law Elton Sprengeler, Elroy and Betty Sprengeler; father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis and Emma Brockoff; sisters-in-law Elsie Lucht, Ella Brockoff, Clara Sprengeler, Mabel Ehlers; brothers-in-law Harry, Elmer and Edgar Brockoff.

Aurelia is survived by her loving family: daughter Annette Quaas of Norwood Young America; sons and daughter-in-law Hilbern and Karen Brockoff of Cologne, Hollace Brockoff of Cologne, Harland Brockoff of Cologne; grandson Dustin Brockoff; sister-in-law Lillian Sprengeler of Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Casket Bearers Jerome Ehlers, Randall Brockoff, Howard Sprengeler, Robert Sprengeler, Matthew Sprengeler, Daniel Sprengeler, Larry Suckow, James Latzke, Dustin Brockoff.
