Lorraine G. Heimkes, age 86, of Gaylord and formerly of Waconia, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at the Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka in Spring Park. Graveside service was held at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Bloomington with Fr. Tim Dolan officiating.
Lorraine Grace Heimkes was born on Nov. 15, 1925 in Waconia the daughter of Frank and Mayme (Maiser) Weinzierl. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia. Lorraine graduated from the Waconia High School.
On June 10, 1950 Lorraine was united in marriage with Russell W. Heimkes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple had lived in Waconia for a short time before moving to Gaylord. Lorraine suffered the death of her husband Russell in October of 1990.
For the past three years she has been a resident at the Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka. Lorraine had worked for Tonka Toys and Red Owl. She enjoyed cooking and baking.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Russell Heimkes, parents Frank and Mayme Weinzierl, sisters Irene Strong, Katie Weinzierl and Marie Kepke, brothers Francis Weinzierl and Rueben Weinzierl.
Lorraine is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Norma Weinzierl of Park Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
