Rev. James L. Wilk, age 79, of Waconia, Minn., passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at his home.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Phil Wagner officiating; visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and at the church one hour prior to the service; prayer service will be held Friday Evening at 8 p.m.; interment Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Waconia.
James L. Wilk was born on April 1, 1933 in Leigh, Neb. He was the son of Oscar and Elsie (Froehlich) Wilk. He was baptized on April 13, 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, Neb., and later confirmed in the Christian Faith on April 14, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, Neb. On June 21, 1958, James was united in marriage to Lydia Gessner at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Ohio.
Pastor Wilk graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1958 and was ordained in the Holy Ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in August of 1958 in Christ Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran Churches in Winner and Clearfield, S.D. He served there for 6 1/2 years, before going to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Standish, Mich. He retired from Bethlehem in 1995 and moved to Waconia where he served at Trinity Lutheran Church by teaching bible studies and preaching God’s Word in the local nursing homes and some church services. He took pride in the fact that he gave 2,700 sermons over his 54 years of ministry.
Pastor Wilk helped with creating and serving Faith Church in Prescott, Mich., as well as serving many vacancies in Michigan. He was the Circuit Counselor of the Timberline Circuit in Michigan for 20 years conducting over 100 call meetings.
He was an awesome husband, dad, grandpa, and friend to so many. He loved taking part in his children’s lives whether it was golfing with his son or helping his daughters with their lawns and yard work. He took pride in baptizing each of his granddaughters and being present at five out of eight confirmations. He had a story to tell you at any given time.
In his last days, he took comfort in Psalm 13 and knowing that he was going to a better place.
Pastor is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Elsie Wilk; sister Donna Dobson.
Pastor Wilk is survived by his loving family; wife Lydia; daughters and son-in-law Debora Dahl of Shoreview, Minn., Lisa and Milo Swanton of Bloomington, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Linda Wilk of Marion, Ind.; granddaughters Ariel Dahl, Kendra Dahl, Rachel Swanton, Jane Swanton, Amy Swanton, Laura Wilk, Marissa Wilk, and Andrea Wilk; sister-in-law Lillian Kachic of Ohio; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
