Sheriff’s Office offers snowmobile safety course
Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson announces his office will be conducting a youth snowmobile safety class on Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Carver County Public Works Building in Cologne.
The class is approximately four hours and has two components: a classroom and a field session. The classroom portion consists of basic knowledge of snowmobile skills, Minnesota laws and regulations, and a written examination. The field session includes the practical (hands-on) operation of a snowmobile upon successful completion of the written examination.
The Sheriff’s Office will supply the snowmobile to be used for the pratical operation part of the class.
Youth ages 11 to 16 must complete the snowmobile CD-ROM independent study course prior to taking the field operating class. The CD-ROM is available free of charge by calling the Department of Natural Resourses (DNR) at (888) 646-6367 or (651) 296-6157.
The cost of the course is $5. Pre-registration is required by contacting Cpl. Chadd Smith at (952) 361-1847.
The Carver County Public Works building is located at 11360 Highway 212 west, Cologne.
Upon successful completion of the class, the student will be certified by the DNR for operation of a snowmobile in the State of Minnesota.
