Ortman prevails in District 47
In the Minnesota State Senate District 47 race between incumbent Julianne Ortman (R) and challenger Jim Weygand (DFL), Ortman will be returning to the senate after defeating Weygand by a margin of approximately two to one in the general election held on Tuesday, Nov. 6. According to unofficial results provided by Carver County, Ortman received 27,128 votes (63.76 percent) to Weygand’s 15,297 votes (35.96 percent).
“It’s always exciting to win on election night,” Ortman said Tuesday night. “I’m very grateful. A lot of people across the district helped with the election and I thank all those who supported me and encouraged me to go back to the capital and continue my work.”
Ortman added that while she was excited about the results in Carver County, she was eagerly watching the fates of colleagues in other senate and house districts across the state. She hopes the Republicans can continue their majority at the capital.
On Tuesday night, Weygand said the results were disappointing but not surprising.
“Carver County is a strong Republican area,” he noted. “I felt it was important we had opposition on the ballot. I offer my congratulations to Julianne. I think the two of us ran a good race. There was nothing to be ashamed of with how we conducted the race.”
