Join 4-H night
THURSDAY, NOV. 8 — 4-H New Member Night, open to all families, takes place from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at the Carver County Extension Office (11360 Hwy 212 W Suite 4, Cologne). Come and learn about the many different opportunities youth can explore in 4-H. Answers to any and all questions you may have in regards to the 4-H program. Participate in activities based on the National 4-H Youth Science Day Experiments. The experiments will give you a taste of the many different project areas. St. John’s paper drive
FRIDAY, NOV. 9 TO SUNDAY, NOV. 11 — St. John’s Lutheran School will hold a paper drive. The students and parents of the first and sixth grades will be there to help you unload Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The trailers are available for you to drop off your paper and cardboard items after 3 p.m. on Friday through Sunday afternoon.

Turkey bingo
SUNDAY, NOV. 11 — Ascension Catholic Church (323 Reform Street, NYA) is hosting a Turkey Bingo event from 1 to 3 p.m. Sponsored by Catholic United Financial. Matching grant money used for Catholic education.

Wrestling fundraiser
MONDAY, NOV. 12 — The Central Wrestling Club will be hosting a fundraiser at the NYA Pizza Ranch from 4:30 to 7:45 p.m. There will be a full buffet. All are welcome to help kick off the 2012-2013 wrestling season! New clothing will also be ready for purchase.

Legion meeting
TUESDAY, NOV. 13 — The American Legion Post 343 will be holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the Roy Clay Building. The Veteran’s Park will be discussed. All members should plan to attend this meeting and voice your comments and issues for the good of the organization.

Poultry Party
FRIDAY, NOV. 16 — Plato Baseball is hosting a Poultry Party at 7:30 p.m. at Plato Community Hall. Bingo, raffle, paddle wheel, ham, turkey, pork chops, steaks, hamburg, chips, candy and beverages. Cash drawing for prizes up to $100; need not be present to win.

Fall bingo, meat raffle
FRIDAY, NOV. 16 — The Hamburg Lions are hosting their Fall Bingo at 7 p.m. at Hamburg Community Hall. Play 25 games for $8 with door prizes given away between every game. Prizes include turkeys, hams and sausages. Hamburgers and beverages available. Raffle drawing for cash prizes — $300 cash and two $100 cash prices. $1 per chance (need not be present for this drawing). The Cologne Leos will have children’s activities. Proceeds used for community projects.

Ava Becher benefit
SATURDAY, NOV. 17 — Ava’s Unbreakable Spirit, a fund-raiser for the family of Ava Becher, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Willkommen Park Pavilion in NYA. Chili feed, cash bar, silent auction, bucket raffle, raffle ticket drawing. Kids crazy hair, glitter tattoos and face painting by Tanglez Salon. Ava was born in July with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, commonly known as Brittle Bone Disease. She had suffered leg fractures while still in the womb and three additional leg fractures at two weeks old, which were followed by a broken arm. There is no cure for the condition, but various therapies and treatments can help.

Christmas Bazaar
SATURDAY, NOV. 17 — St. Bernard’s will host a Christmas Bazaar Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Bernard’s School in Cologne. Great hot dish lunch and craft items, quilt chances and baked goods.

Christmas Open House
SATURDAY, NOV. 17 — There will be a Christmas Open House at the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society (102 E Main St., NYA) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Heritage Center invites you to an indoor historical house tour displaying eight homes with eight Christmas trees and other decorations. Treats will be served and admission is free. The Society now has a Facebook page — go to Facebook.com and check it out at NYAHeritageCenter. Questions, call (952) 467-4227.

Vendor sale
SATURDAY, NOV. 17 — St. John’s School in NYA is hosting a vendor sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come get some early Christmas shopping done. Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Longaberger and many more vendors included. Concessions served by the St. John’s youth group, and proceeds will go toward their trip to Texas.

Craft fair
SATURDAY, NOV. 17 — The 30th annual NYA Community Education Craft Fair will take place at Central High School and Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over 200 crafters will be displaying. A shuttle bus will be running between the high school, elementary school, and St. John’s school for the vendor sale.

Pancake breakfast
SUNDAY, NOV. 18 — All Saints Lutheran Church in NYA is hosting a pancake breakfast, including ham and scrambled eggs, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Free will offering. Open to everyone.

SUNDAY, NOV. 18 — Council 2506 will host a pancake and sausage breakfast at St. Joseph parish center in Waconia from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The council supports the parishes of St. Bernards, St. Joseph and St. Victoria.

Dad’s Belgian Waffles
SUNDAY, NOV. 18 — An all you care to eat Dad’s Belgian Waffle meal will be served from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran School gym (27, 1st Ave. NW) in NYA. Carryouts available. Everyone welcome. Advance tickets available from St. John’s LWML or St. John’s Youth Group (call 467-2740 for more information). Proceeds benefit St. John’s LWML mission projects and St. John’s Youth trip to San Antonio Youth Gathering in 2013. Cost is $7 for adults ($8 at the door), $5 for children 6-12 and free for those under age 5.

Blood drive
MONDAY, NOV. 1 — A blood drive will be held at Emanuel Lutheran School in Hamburg from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Giving Thanks Supper
TUESDAY, NOV. 20 — All Saints Lutheran Church is providing a free meal to the first 75 people to make a reservation at the second annual Giving Thanks Supper from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church (511 Merger Street, NYA). There is no cost — reservations can be made by calling (952) 261-5419 by Saturday, Nov. 17.

CCLCCA training
TUESDAY, NOV. 20 — The Carver County Licensed Family Child Care Association meets the third Tuesday of each month for trainings and meeting. This training is titled “Family Child Care Money Management and Retirement Planning.” It starts at 6:30 p.m. with “Shaken Baby” viewing. Money Management Training is from 7-9 p.m. Family child care providers meet for training each month at the Early Childhood Center in Chaska on Village Parkway. Breakfast with Santa
SATURDAY, DEC. 8 — Come out to the NYA Pavilion at 9 a.m. for a light breakfast and a chance for kids to see Santa. Cost for children is $5/ticket regardless of age. Tickets are on sale at the Flower Mill.
