LHS girls’ soccer still searching for winning season

The Mayer Lutheran girls’ soccer team continues to inch closer to a winning season, after finishing 2012 with a 4-8-1 record.

Kicking off the season with a win over West Lutheran on Aug. 24, the Crusaders also picked up wins over the International School of Minnesota (3-2 on Aug. 28), Spectrum (4-1 on Sept. 20), and Prairie Seeds Academy (6-0 on Sept. 25).

The lone tie for the Crusaders came on Sept. 8 in a 2-2 stalemate at Bethany Academy.

Mayer Lutheran ended the season on a four-game losing streak, finishing the regular season with losses to Southwest Christian, Watertown-Mayer, and Glencoe-Silver Lake the first week of October.

The Crusaders’ postseason hopes were dashed Oct. 9 when they fell 11-0 at Holy Family in the first round of Section 6A.

The Mayer Lutheran team will lose five seniors this season, including midfielders Allie Erdmann, Liz Laurent, and Terrin Boozikee. Goalie Miriam Wilson and defender Emily Johnson will also leave holes on the team that the Crusaders will need to fill next season.

Fortunately, the graduating Crusaders will leave behind a host of other players that will step in and take over as the new season begins next fall.
