Obits – Patricia Ann Collins

Patricia Ann Collins

Patricia Ann Collins

Patricia Ann “Patti” Collins, age 58, of Waconia, went to her Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at The Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska in the presence of her loving family. Patti was truly an inspiration embracing what life brought to her with laughter, hope, courage and gentle strength. Life brought two diagnoses of cancer, which she tenaciously faced  and  courageously fought to the best of her ability.
Throughout her battle she kept an admirable, most positive attitude, and  optimistic outlook.
Patti was born on Oct. 31, 1953 to Henry and Melinda (Rehmann) Slanga.
She was the youngest of six children, and was raised in Lester Prairie.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Patti had a lifelong passion for gardening.
Each and every day Patti  the took time to see, appreciate and embrace the beauty of flowers and plants. In fact she was so good at this passion, that gardening was also a source of part time employment.
She  enjoyed spending as much as time as she could in nature, and was totally in tune with nature. Patti loved to spend as much time outdoors playing with her projects as the season and a day allowed.
She totally respected the earth’s resources. She believed and practiced making a difference by improving the environment through recycling and conserving. Patti was artistic; she made jewelry, gifts and beautiful flower arrangements. She was an excellent homemaker and had an immense amount of knowledge to  clean every and any type of  household  item. She was always eager and did share these tips with friends. Patti also had a very large collection of tools, and always the right one on hand to do any kind of gardening, auto, or home repair.
Patti had very close wonderful relationships with her friends and family. She was generous with her time and talents always ready to lend a helping hand if asked, and she always put others before herself.
She was sweet, kind, thoughtful, considerate, compassionate,  witty … without a doubt, one-of-a-kind. She loved all those in her life unconditionally and always had time to listen and be supportive.
Unfavorable and negative words were not part of Patti’s vocabulary. An often used phrase of Patti was: “If you don’t have something good to say … then don’t say it.”
Her friends and family will greatly miss Patti’s precious enduring enthusiasm, extreme love and zest for life … beaming smiles, and contagious laughter. But most of all her “Million Dollar” hugs that she so generously gave to all, full of radiating love that touched your heart and placed you in her garden of friends that she so cherished.
This is how Patti planted and cultivated her Garden of Friends & Family. They truly meant the most to her in life … and most certainly will continue to throughout eternity. Oh what a huge glorious garden she planted to love and be loved in return!
In 2004, Patti met the love of her life, Patrick Timothy Collins, and they were married Oct. 26, 2008. They resided happily together in Waconia.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Melinda Slanga (Rehmann), and her loving brothers: Rodney, Roger, James “Jimmy” and Steven.
Patti is survived by her loving family:  Tim Collins of Waconia, son “Skip” Stippich and daughter-in-law Laura Karjala;  grandchildren Parker, Olivia and Jessica of Burnsville; stepdaughter MacKenzie Collins of Waconia ; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Jeff Rossi of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law: Lanora (Mrs. Rodney) of Albany, Ore.; Bunny L. (Mrs. Roger) of Saint Paul, Minn.; Irene (Mrs. James) of Sun City West, Ariz.; Brenda (Mrs. Steven) of Nashville, Tenn.; and Jacqueline (Francis) Gingras and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 141 East First Street, Waconia. Chaplain Joel Sund will officiate the service. Friends and family are welcome to gather from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
