A day to honor the veterans

A number of special programs were held last week in honor of Veterans Day, which occurred on Sunday, Nov. 11. One such event featuring representatives from Waconia VFW Post 5462 took place at Lighthouse of Waconia on Friday, Nov. 9. The program focused on the history of the American Flag and included a flag folding demonstration. Above, retired Lt. Col. Dave Daubert of Waconia, second from right, offers details about the flag after the demonstration. Daubert served in the U.S. Army as a tanker during the Vietnam War. The other representatives included Donald Van Eyll of Chaska, left, who served in the U.S. Army in 1952-53 during the Korean War; Brandon Gnemi, second from left, who is a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard and served as a C-130H Jet Mechanic during Operation Enduring Freedom; Kyle Gray of St. Bonifacius, right, a member of the U.S. Army and Minnesota National Guard who served in Operation New Dawn in 2011-12 providing convoy security in Iraq; and Dwayne Krienke of Mayer, not pictured, who served in the U.S. Navy in disbursing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal during the Vietnam War.
