The Mound-Westonka and Holy Family girls’ swim teams spent the regular season combined as a co-op. But change came last week, as the team had to split into its individual schools for the Section 3A championships at Hutchinson.
Bringing 11 team members to the section competition, the Holy Family swimmers finished second as a team. Coach Gretchen Rouse was selected as the Section 3A Coach of the Year, while Kayla Lindeman was named the Section 3A Diver of the Year. Mackenzie Braden qualified for four state events and was named the Section 3A Swimmer of the Year.
Lindeman won the diving competition with a score of 322.10, also qualifying for the state tournament. This will be her second appearance.
Braden set a Section 3A record in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.57, and also won the 200 yard freestyle. She was also on two state qualifying relays – the 200 medley and the 400 free.
Braden is joined by Shea Braden, Brianna LaVelle, and Clare Simon on the state 200 medley team after their fourth place finish at sections. They also qualified in the 400 free relay.
