Obits — Edward W. Beneke

Edward William Beneke, age 89, of Hamburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Waconia Good Samaritan Center. Memorial services were held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, with interment following at the church cemetery. Clergy officiating: Pastor Donald Andrix; organist: Kathy Oelfke; special music: Emanuel Lutheran Men’s Choir, “So Nimm Denn Meine Hande”; congregational hymn: “Just As I Am”; honorary urn bearers: grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward “Eddie” William Beneke was born on Oct. 22, 1923 in Young America Township near Hamburg. He was the son of Edward (EWH) and Frieda (Mueller) Beneke. Edward, being a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, was baptized as an infant on Nov. 4, 1923, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 21, 1937. On June 30, 1949, Edward was united in marriage to June Winter at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The couple made their home on the Beneke farm one mile south of Hamburg. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Linda and David. Edward and June shared over 54 years of marriage, until June passed away on April 27, 2004. Eddie, a lifelong fisherman, took his last fishing trip with the Good Samaritan Nursing Home to Lake Minnetonka and caught three sunfish. Besides fishing, Eddie loved to garden with June and gave their excess produce to family and friends. Above all, Eddie enjoyed going to garage sales. After June’s death, he and his friend, Norman, continued the tradition. Edward passed away at the age of 89 years and 8 days. Blessed be his memory.

Edward is survived by his: children, Linda Peterson of Hamburg, David Beneke of Buffalo; grandchildren, Jenny Gieseke (husband, Aaron), Andy Peterson, Chrissy Chapman (husband, Nate), Jammie Beneke, Corey Beneke (special friend, Becky), Kailey Beneke, Brittany Beneke; great-grandchildren, Alex and Austin Gieseke, Lydia Chapman, Jacob, Felicity and Abby Clement, Riley and Wesley Beneke; sister, Frieda Leininger; sisters-in-law, Sabena Wacker, Lorraine Uecker, Myra Armstrong, Winter; brother-in-law, George Uecker; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
