Peace poster contest winners announced

Tanner Kurtzweg’s peace poster, titled “Peaceful Thoughts Rising To The Earth,” was chosen as the first place winner in the Hamburg Lions Club’s annual Peace Poster Contest.

Kurtzweg, an 8th grader at Emanuel Lutheran School, was recognized for his poster’s originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the theme, “Imagine Peace.” He received a $50 prize and a certificate, and his poster will advance to the district level.

Seventh grader Chauntaya Dammann took second place with her entry, “Think of Peace.” She will a $25 prize and a certificate, and both students will be dinner guests with the Lions during their meeting on Nov. 19.

A total of 21 Emanuel students participated in the contest. Their posters are on display through November at the State Bank of Hamburg. The contest encourages young people age 11-13 to think about peace and creatively express what it means to them.
