Emily Cardinal, a sophomore at Central High School, had the opportunity to open for Ari Herstand last month before one of Herstand’s performances at the 318 Cafe in Excelsior.
Cardinal will also perform at the Breakfast with Santa event in NYA on Dec. 8.
Herstand performed at Central Schools three years ago before moving to Los Angeles to expand his career as a musician. His “Build the Loop Tour” will bring him back to Minneapolis for a few shows.
A Minneapolis native, Herstand now resides in L.A., and has opened for artists such as Ben Folds, Cake, Joshua Radin, Matt Nathanson, Eric Hutchinson and Ron Pope.
He is best known for his solo, live looping abilities: melding the guitar, keyboard, trumpet, tambourine, vocals and beat boxing seamlessly – to create a unique, full band sound.
Having multiple songs featured on tv shows like One Tree Hill and various Showtime and MTV shows and spending the majority of his year on the road, Herstand is quickly building his grassroots fan base. He is happiest in front of a live crowd. With his comedic stage banter mixed in with the multi-instrumental live recording/looping show, everyone is entertained.
