Toastmasters Club

Golden Connections

Networking group
TUESDAYS – Lakeside Networkers is a local BNI business networking group that meets weekly on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. at Lola’s Lakehouse in Waconia to share referrals and grow businesses. All are welcome to attend the meetings.

Lighthouse pie-coffee

Legion, VFW events
The Waconia American Legion holds a sheephead tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and a Texas hold ‘em tournament at 7 and 9 p.m. on Fridays. The Waconia VFW holds a meat raffle Fridays at 7 p.m. and bingo at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Hearts for Harrison
DEC. 3-8 – Off the Top Hair Salon in Waconia is holding a fundraiser to benefit the Hearts for Harrison effort. From Dec. 3-8, the salon (9364 Oak Ave.) will donate 10 percent of all proceeds (walk-ins welcome) to Hearts for Harrison, a Waconia boy who is awaiting a heart transplant.

Early Childhood screening
DEC. 6 & 7 – Early Childhood Screening is a free service offered by District 110 staff that will check a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. Screenings take place at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd., from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 7. Info: 442-0613.

Rock on Ice event
FRIDAY, DEC. 7 – Enjoy a variety of music and the Rock on Ice lights and fog machine at the Waconia Ice Arena (1250 Oak Avenue) from 7 to 9 p.m. Adults: $3.50, students and seniors: $2.50. Singing Friends concerts
DEC. 8 & 9 – The Singing Friends Chorus performs at St. Mark Lutheran Church (211 Adams Avenue South) in New Germany on Saturday, Dec. 8, and at First Congregational United Church of Christ (1400 Elliott Avenue North) in Glencoe on Sunday, Dec. 9. Both concerts begin at 2 p.m. Freewill offering.

Christmas concert
SUNDAY, DEC. 9 – Trinity Lutheran Church (513 Madison SE, Watertown) presents its annual Christmas concert at 4 p.m. This year’s Celtic rich Tapestry of Light concert features youth and adult choirs, bell choir and instrumentalists under the direction of Joyce Harding. Public welcome. Social reception follows concert in fellowship hall.

SUNDAY, DEC. 9 – The Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. at Waconia High School for games, food and an encouraging message from Andi Custer, Student Ministry Leader at Oakwood Community Church.

Winter Workshop
TUESDAY, DEC. 11 – Visit the Waconia Public Services Facility (310 East Tenth Street) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and learn how City Maintenance personnel utilize liquids to lowering chloride impacts in winter maintenance to protect the environment. Topics covered will include liquid anti-icing, liquid de-icing, pre-treatment of salt, liquid production, and review of the City Winter Maintenance Policy and how it affects you as a resident. Learn how you too can assist in reducing chloride use at your home and protect the environment.

CUF Christmas Party
TUESDAY, DEC. 11 – The St. Joseph Council of Catholic United Financial Christmas Party and monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center. Potluck; bring dish to share, two dozen cookies, article for food shelf. Juvenile Christmas gifts will be given at this meeting.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12 – All are welcome to attend “Christmas FAQ” at 1 and 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. Students in grades 5-8 will perform a program that will answer questions people may have about the Christmas story — as well as some they have never thought about before.

Armchair Traveler
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12 – The public is welcome to attend the “Armchair Traveler” program from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lighthouse of Waconia (500 S Cherry St.). Topic: Scandanavian Christmas. Free.

Waconia Toy Drive
FRIDAY, DEC. 14 – The Waconia Area Women of Today will hold the 9th annual Waconia Toy Drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Waconia Fire Station.  Toys will be distributed to families in need in School District 110 area.  Volunteers needed.  Info:  Cary Rust at 952-769-7268 or [email protected]

St. Lucia Celebration
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 – The annual Lucia Celebration will be held at Waconia Faith Lutheran Church from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Celebrate St Lucia, one of the foremost cultural traditions in Sweden. Lucia is the symbol of light and hope; she comes on the darkest day of the year to herald in the joyous season with singing, feasting and the spirit of friendship and goodwill towards all. Swedish pastries and beverages will be served, Shelly Hilgers will provide musical entertainment, children will enjoy making Lucia crafts, meet this year’s St. Lucia-Queen of Light, and listen to traditional Scandinavian stories. Swedish baked goods and treats will also be available for sale.

Pet Adoption
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 – Carver Scott Humane Society volunteers will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m. at PETCO in Eden Prairie. Kittens, cats, dogs available. All cats, dogs have been micro ID implanted, vet checked, wormed, had shots updated, checked for friendly temperaments, and age appropriately spayed/neutered. Christmas program
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 19 – All are welcome to attend “Christmas in Reverse” at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. Students in grades K-4 will perform. Instead of this children’s play ending with the nativity, Christmas in Reverse starts at the manger then “rewinds” to give details on the events leading up to the first Christmas. Also performed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

JAN. 25-27 – The Waconia 2013 Ride-In will be held at Lake Waconia Regional Park.
