The Waconia American Legion holds a sheephead tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and a Texas hold ‘em tournament at 7 and 9 p.m. on Fridays. The Waconia VFW holds a meat raffle Fridays at 7 p.m. and bingo at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Hearts for Harrison
DEC. 3-8 – Off the Top Hair Salon in Waconia is holding a fundraiser to benefit the Hearts for Harrison effort. From Dec. 3-8, the salon (9364 Oak Ave.) will donate 10 percent of all proceeds (walk-ins welcome) to Hearts for Harrison, a Waconia boy who is awaiting a heart transplant.
Early Childhood screening
DEC. 6 & 7 – Early Childhood Screening is a free service offered by District 110 staff that will check a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. Topics covered will include liquid anti-icing, liquid de-icing, pre-treatment of salt, liquid production, and review of the City Winter Maintenance Policy and how it affects you as a resident. St. Lucia Celebration
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 – The annual Lucia Celebration will be held at Waconia Faith Lutheran Church from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Celebrate St Lucia, one of the foremost cultural traditions in Sweden. Lucia is the symbol of light and hope; she comes on the darkest day of the year to herald in the joyous season with singing, feasting and the spirit of friendship and goodwill towards all. Swedish pastries and beverages will be served, Shelly Hilgers will provide musical entertainment, children will enjoy making Lucia crafts, meet this year’s St. Lucia-Queen of Light, and listen to traditional Scandinavian stories. Swedish baked goods and treats will also be available for sale.
