Waconia head coach Molly Oscarson was unsure in the preseason of how the Wildcat gymnasts would fare in their first meet at Delano. Facing off against a tough conference team on the road on Nov. 30, the Wildcats narrowly defeated the Tigers 130.8-128.825.
“The girls did an amazing job handling the pressure of the first meet, and the pressure of going against one of our bigger rivals for the conference championship,” Oscarson said. “The way they performed was almost as if we were half way through the season.”
On the vault, freshman Ella Hommer was third with a score of 8.9, while senior Alexanna Gluck and freshman Abby Fahrenkamp tied for fourth at 8.6. Gluck finished second on bars at 7.925, while fellow senior Mckensie Livermore was fourth (7.475).
Livermore won on the beam with a score of 8.825, closely trailed by senior captain Katie McMahon in third (4.25). Gluck was fourth in the event (8.15), and Hommer finished fifth (7.95).
The Wildcats swept places 3-6 on the floor exercise, led by Gluck in third (8.625). Sophomore Ashley Livermore finished fourth at 8.4, while Mckensie Livermore and McMahon took fourth and fifth, separated by only 25 hundredths of a point. Livermore scored 8.225; McMahon scored an 8.2.
Gluck was second in the all around with a total score of 33.3. Mckensie Livermore was fourth at 33.075, over McMahon in fifth (32.3), and Hommer in sixth (31.8).
“I am excited to see our scores go up from here as the girls continue to improve,” Oscarson said.
